The 1941 Principia marks an important moment in the history of Grönefeld, as it is the very first automatic watch of the brand. The horological brothers, Tim and Bart Grönefeld named the watch after the birth year of their father along with the title of a volume of three books written by Sir Isaac Newton about the laws of motion and gravitation.

Grönefeld 1941 PrincipiaAs could be expected of a Grönefeld the 1941 Principia is also a thing of beauty. Hand-beveled bridges offer a stunning contrast with the micro-blasted surfaces, over which a 22 karat solid red gold rotor swings. This is all captured in a beautifully sculpted case with a diameter of 39.5 millimeters.

Grönefeld offers this watch in three different case materials: stainless steel, red gold and white gold, along with five different dials to choose from, and seven different straps. Where most haute horlogerie brands play it safe, Grönefeld adds lots of color to its latest watch, offering the dials in salmon, light blue and turquoise for example. The one thing they all have is, however, the flame-blued lancette hands which not only make reading the time a breeze, but also adds to the overall composition that makes up this horological masterpiece from Oldenzaal!

The author 0024 Editorial Team

When we started publishing our first high-end watch magazine in 1999, we had only one intention: increasing the popularity of high-quality mechanical watches. Now, many years later, this has not changed at all. In 2017 we have reinvented ourselves to serve our readers in a different and better way. Starting in 2017, the new 0024 is again better equipped to interact with the changing world of high-end watches. The new 0024 HORLOGES magazine (written in Dutch) will be at least a 200 pager: that’s twice the volume of our magazine in the old days.
