Watch prices have been going crazy for some time now, but this year saw one highlight that will never be forgotten. At the Only Watch charitable auction in November this year, the old record was shattered by 23.7 million Swiss francs.
Surprisingly good watches are coming from The Netherlands these days. This time a novelty is a lady’s watch set with diamonds, made by a very experienced watch maker. The producer is Schaftenaar Watches. Owner of the brand is Arnold Schaftenaar, who comes from a jeweler’s family and learned the craft from the Schoonhoven Watch School. He launched his first watches in 2012, two gentleman pieces called the Traveller and the Journey.
The Limited Edition watches by Nomos and Ace jewellers are well-known pieces to look out for amongst watch lovers. Last three editions were sold out quite quickly, and for good reason. The team at ACE always know how to do something cool and unusual to the watches that come from Glashütte.
Maurice Lacroix launched its first ‘Masterpiece’ in the nineties, although it had been making watches for decades at that point. The piece grew out to become a serious pillar under the brand. With this collection, Maurice Lacroix shows both its technical prowess and daring design language.
One of the biggest spectacles in motorsports is without a doubt the 24 Hours endurance race at the French circuit of Le Mans. And Rebellion has for ever left its mark there. Ending on the first position on with its 2011 Le Mans Series LMP1 Team was only the start of that legacy. It ended first in every year since, until 2017. This is not a small feat, definitely if one takes the history of this independent brand into consideration.
